Pakistani media

    The need to achieve fame is an obsesion that almost every ambitious person possesses. For instance, a doctor wishes to earn respect by saving the lives of many; singers wish to inspire their audiences; and so on. But in the field of media , Pakistani media in particular, fame is earned for all the bad reasons. It was the trend in the old days whereby people used to do good to gain fame, but recently, you need to either become 'bad' or perform a publicity stunt.    Now lets talk about the Veena Malik's latest scandal. I personally did not choose to be on the orthodox side: the one who think she should be exiled, if not stoned or burnt or beheaded. As a liberal believer, I thought whatever she had dopne previously might offended many Pakistanis, who believe that a person's work and personality are not two separate entities. But what got me recently was this episode from Hero TV's program -Astagfaar. In the video a woman calls and stated that she might be under an evil spell. whilst talking she gets "possessed", and strange devil-like voices are heard on the call. What's funny is that. the maulvi sitting with Veena begins to talk to "demon" and shockingly enough, the demon answers back. Also, the demon speaks Urdu, is not a Muslim, and obviously knows how to use the phone because he is so technologically intellectual.     Whatever happened to GOOD TV shows? Is it important for our media to do such cheap acts to gain TRPs? Veena Malik was indecent, but she was not a liar. After this episode she was definitely 'in' on the plan. Also weren't we told that the show Astagfaar has been cancelled?      I would love to see how the owner of Hero TV is - or better yet, who the recruiters are. If they wanted a woman to Host a Ramzan show, could they have not found a woman who has not been such a controversy since 2010.     I would end this blog, by just saying that I'm utterly disappointed with this clip, and where on one side, Sharmeen Obaid winning an Oscar for a documentary based on woman who are victims on acid attacks; on the other side you have this kind of crap.
